In order for the movie to express this development, the character has to show growth in moral and ethical qualities, such as integrity, honesty, or courage, and by having a well-developed background, making the character three-dimensional. The viewer wants to see the main character (protagonist) and the supporting characters develop like people do in real life. Identifying with the characters is a common reason people love a certain movie. This leads us to the main ingredient of a movie and why we watch movies: the characters. The portrayal of a character in a movie can also be phrased by the formula: Dialogue + Physical Movement = Character.
